CHESTERFIELD, VIRGINIA (April 10, 2010) – The Disabled Veterans Committee on Housing today is proud announce the  completion of a new accessible home for former Army 1st Lt. James W. Moore, a decorated soldier who served with distinction in the Gulf War.  Lt. Moore is a 100% disabled veteran.  Lt. Moore’s new specially adapted home has been designed to meet his medical needs.

For Lt. Moore and many disabled veterans having a new accessible home is a dream comes true.  Unlike most Americans, our disabled veterans – who have given so much to keep America free – can not move around their homes freely, go from one room to another?  The things they once did are for so many out of reach because of the injuries they have sustained serving our country.  For many disabled veterans isolation and limited access in their homes ignites a sense of hopelessness and despair.  Many feel forgotten, useless to themselves and their families.  The DVCH has and will continue to assist disabled veterans improve the quality of life in their homes.

Army 1st Lt. James W. Moore's Home

One of the many accessible features installed into this new home is a fixed ceiling lift system manufactured by Waverley Glen Systems, a division of the PRISM Medical Company.  The lift system will allow James to travel throughout his home without requiring a major physical effort on the part of his family members.

In the case of Lt. Moore officials from Waverley Glen called and asked what could they do to help this veteran and his caregivers obtain the freedom James has wanted for years.  After learning of James’ situation they offered to provide him this wonderful lift system.

Waverley Glen has been focused on the safe transfer and repositioning of people since the company was founded in 1986. Since then, it has supplied ceiling lifts, floor lifts, and transfer aids across North America.
